weight loss

CBD or cannabidiol is one of the many components found in cannabis. After tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it’s the second most available cannabinoid that composes up to 40% of the plants‘ extract.

However, unlike THC, CBD doesn’t cause any high or a sense of euphoria, which is another reason why it’s getting popular day by day.

CBD is widely used to treat anxiety, depression, pain, and inflammation. Besides, it’s known to have a positive effect on weight loss.

This article looks into the research-baked facts about CBD on how it can promote weight loss.

How Can CBD Promote Weight Loss?

Apart from reducing your anxiety and stress, CBD can do so many things for your health, including losing weight. Certain factors help this component to promote weight loss.

1. CBD May Boost Metabolism.

Several studies have suggested that a regular intake of CBD may boost your metabolism and reduce your food take, which can help you shed some extra weight.

According to some animal studies, cannabidiol can interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in lymphoid tissue and the brain, which have positive effects on your food intake and metabolism.

Another two-week study shows that after injecting the rats with different doses of CBD, the higher dose showed a better result in reducing weight.

Although the results were promising, none of these studies were done on humans, and CBD was injected instead of given orally.

2. It May Help in Browning of Fat Cells.

Two types of fats exist in your body – white and brown. White fat stays in the predominant form and is responsible for storing and supplying energy to your body.

When deposited in excess, it can cause some chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular problems and diabetes.

On the other hand, healthy people tend to have more brown fats than obese people. It’s because brown fat can burn calories and produce heat.

Doing regular exercise, eating healthy, as well as exposure to cold,, can help to convert the white fat into brown fat. And, surprisingly, cannabidiol can help in this process.

A 2016 research shows that CBD can turn the white fat into brown fat and improve some of the protein and genes that promote brown fat.

Can Marijuana Promote Weight Loss?

We all know that marijuana intake is associated with increased food consumption, but most of us don’t know that it can also help in losing weight.

A 2011 research was performed on 50,000 people. The result showed an obesity rate of 14-17% among people who used marijuana, while the rate was 22-25% for those who didn’t.

Researchers think all kinds of cannabinoids, including CBD, can help in losing weight by affecting the metabolism and appetite.

Is CBD Associated With Weight Gain?

Although CBD is known to promote weight loss by reducing appetite and improving metabolism, it can also cause weight gain in some cases.

In fact, changes in appetite are one of the most common side effects of CBD treatment.

A research conducted on epileptic children shows that CBD could successfully reduce the symptoms of epilepsy. However, around 30% of parents reported that it increased their kid’s appetite significantly.

There are also some studies that show a mixed result.

A 2017 research was conducted on 23 children with Dravet syndrome (a type of epilepsy). They were treated with up to 11.4 mg of CBD based on their body weight. Some of them experienced increased appetite, while others show the opposite result.

Another scientific review shows that some CBD users may experience increased hunger as a side effect.

Should You Go For CBD to Lose Weight?

Although it’s not clear how CBD can help in weight loss, it provides some other health benefits. Besides, it’s relatively safe to use.

Besides, there’s a lack of human research that could provide reliable information about CBD’s effects on weight loss.

If you really need to lose weight, do some exercise, eat healthy, instead of just relying on CBD.

Bottom Line

CBD is one of the most popular cannabis products that you can use for several reasons. Although it’s known to lose weight. Current studies don’t show any clear report.

Besides, there are mixed results about whether CBD can increase appetite or decrease it. However, you can still use CBD products to reduce anxiety, depression, and other issues.

Before purchasing CBD products, make sure CBD is legal in your state.
